I did not know what to do for this assignment. I was unsure if we were supposed to create our own music on The Free Sound Project or just write a blog on music in general, I was not sure. I noticed that other people just gave their definition and their opinions on the subject. A formal definition of music would be the art of tones that are combined in such a way that it pleases the ear. I think that music is more than a formal definition and can be in no way expressed through words. Each person has their own tastes on what "good" music is, and in my opinion it is nothing over processed and fake, like pop and techno. I prefer acoustics or an arrangement that sounds the same whether it is recorded in a studio or played live. However, other people may disagree with my opinion of "good" music and say that music is the art of mixing sounds and techno and pop are included in such arrangements. Dave Matthews Band and Jack Johnson are exemplary in the industry, and the guitar is so pure and genius. Actually, I like all types of music. I have respect for all types of music. It just depends on the personality, that will determine which type suites he/she best. Thus, music is not a definable word, so to say. It is what it is, and the definition changes from person to person. It evolves from different cultures from African, to polka, to salsa.
